Trust The Lonely Island to make a fake pop star documentary that feels like reality. In Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping, Andy Samberg plays narcissistic douchetool Conner 4 Real, a man totally enveloped in his own ego and admirers.
Samberg’s character draws from Justin Bieber, Kanye West and documentaries about Miley Cyrus and One Direction — but in true Lonely Island fashion, the film amps up every element of absurdity. The trailer features documentary confessionals from Simon Cowell, Usher, Adam Levine, DJ Khaled and Sarah Silverman as Conner’s publicist.
A slew of Saturday Night Live alumni also populate Conner’s world, including Tim Meadows, Bill Hader (Conner’s roadie), Will Forte (Conner’s bagpiper) and Will Arnett (Conner’s paparazzo). Then there are cameos from Snoop Dogg (Conner’s Dogg Father), Joan Cusack (Conner’s mom), P!nk (Conner’s unicorn handler) and Martin Sheen (Conner’s nemesis).
Rounding out the original Lonely Island trio are Jorma Taccone as Conner’s DJ and Akiva Shaffer as as a lyricist.
Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping releases on June 3.
